ABOUT CDJ/History(소개/연혁)

The Center for Distributive Justice (CDJ, below) is a nonpartisan institution fostering academic and policy research on distributive justice, income distribution and inequality. CDJ was established in the Institute of Economic Research at Seoul National University on September 1, 2011. Its core research areas include 
1) theories of distributive justice and normative economic theory, 
2) social and economic inequalities and redistribution policies, 
3) experimental social science and policy analysis, 
4) multicultural society and social cohesion. 
CDJ promotes interdisciplinary research collaboration among scholars in Economics, Politics, Sociology, Philosophy etc. 

CDJ organizes regular seminar series, international and domestic workshops in economic theory and applications, a quarterly policy workshop (Economy and Justice), and special lecture series in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. International partnerships of CDJ include the Institute of Economic Research at Kyoto University (Japan), the University of Tokyo (Japan), Waseda University (Japan), Institute of Economics at Academia Sinica (Taiwan). CDJ hosts workshops and conferences organized annually under the partnerships with these institutes. CDJ has been hosting leading international or domestic academic conferences such as the 14th Meeting of the Society for Social Choice and Welfare in 2018, the 20th Annual Meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory (SAET) in 2021, the 9th East Asia Game Theory Conference in 2024, among others.   

CDJ had been funded by the National Research Foundation of the Korean Government through the SSK Grant Program (NRF-2016S1A3A2924944) from its inception until 2020. It has also been funded by the Korean government and Seoul National University.

정의(正義)과 포용(包容)은 그 자체가 마땅히 추구해야 할 규범이기도 하지만 사회 그리고 국가경제의 지속 발전을 위해 필요하다는 것이 최근 사회과학자들이 밝혀내고 있는 사실이자 여러 국제기구들이 강조하고 있는 정책지침이다. 한국사회는 경제적 불평등과 양극화, 빈곤, 계층 간 교육·건강·소득 기회의 불평등, 미비한 사회 안전망, 저출산·고령화로 인하여 급변하는 인구 구성과 그로 인해 발생하는 사회·경제적 문제들로 큰 어려움을 겪고 있다. 날로 악화되는 분배 문제들은 사회통합을 저해하고 중장기적으로 국가경쟁력을 손상시키는 위협요인이라 인식되고 있다. 이제는 분배의 공정성을 재고하고 점증하는 사회복지 수요에 부응하여 경제와 사회전반의 포용성을 높이는 국가 제도와 공공부문의 개혁이 필요한 시점이다. 분배정의연구센터(이하 센터)는 이러한 한국사회의 당면과제에 부응하여 분배정의와 사회통합과 관련된 학술 및 정책 연구를 수행하는 학술연구기관으로서, 한국연구재단의 연구지원(SSK사업 NRF-2016S1A3A2924944)으로 서울대학교 경제연구소 산하에 2011년 9월 설립되었다. 센터는 1) 분배정의와 규범경제학, 2) 불평등과 정부의 재분배 정책에 대한 실증분석, 3) 실험 및 증거기반 사회정책연구, 4) 문화적 다양성과 사회통합, 이 네 가지 핵심 영역의 연구진과 국내외 연구 네트워크를 확보하여 연구와 학술활동을 수행하고 있다.
